Set in Barcelona (surprise!) and Berlin during World War II around a real event, the story revolves around the lives of Werner, a German born Jewish American doctor, his nephew Max, a svelte Jewish German circus performer, Rosy, the beautiful Nazi intelligence agent who loves them both (it’s complicated), and Joshua, a young gay Jewish German musician and best friend to Max.

The characters are rich and alive, and apparently all really good looking. The story is about love, and passion, and conflicting allegiances. An extraordinary read. I highly recommend this book.
